Well, I've started the new hat. I cast on this morning and knit two rows to get started, so it will be all ready to work on tonight while I'm visiting with friends/waiting in a restaurant. Yay. It's going very quickly already. And I'm bringing roommate's socks along to work to knit during my hour-long break. Maybe I'll even get to the toe of the first one??

I finished the Muppet fur scarf!!!! Yay! I'm giving it to my friend Joli tomorrow, so I'll post a picture of her wearing it. It's all wrapped up and stuff already.

And I found a hat to make for that other friend! I got two skeins of bright pretty Rimini Rainbow and will do a simple rolled brim hat. With size 15 needles it should go nice and quickly. I'll take a pic when it's done, or maybe one in progress first.

So. I have apparently decided that I need to knit another gift. I will be seeing an old friend from high school on the 26th, so I want to bring her something. I think a hat would be nice. I want something easy and affordable but fun, both to knit and to look at/wear. I guess I'll stop by my secondary LYS (I prefer the other, but this one's closer) after work and see what they can suggest. Unless anyone else has suggestions first?

There's Christmas, and then there's Knit It!!

It comes out the 26th, apparently. Will I be able to wait to pick it up at work on the 27th, or will I stop somewhere on my way back from CT to find one ASAP??? I can't wait!

I think we should petition to make "knitty" an official imood.

Becky is giving us all sorts of fun fiber fairy tales and more!

My LYS now has a Web site!

Part of that entry that I lost last night was about how I really need one of these. I think I might even have yarn for it. Hmmmmm. As soon as I finish Christmas knitting...

Speaking of Christmas knitting, I have discovered that I will be seeing the recipient of one of the scarves (NOT the one I've finished, of course) on Saturday. Eek! So I'll have to finish it tomorrow. On the plus side, though, I've decided that the whole dishcloths for the grandparents idea just isn't working. I didn't like any of the patterns I tried, and then I find out they told my mom they don't want any of us sending them presents. So... yeah. I'll skip that.

Back to the socks. Knitting knitting knitting...

Argh. There was an entry I forgot to post last night. Must redo that today. After work.

I woke up this morning and found two skeins of DMC, slightly mangled, on the floor in the hall. I told the roommate to keep his eye out for any more hostages, and that I would appreciate their safe return. Sigh. At least the kitten has good taste.

Speaking of J, he's going to an open mic tonight, so I will have time to knit his socks! That combined with a few hours of kniting at work tonight (where the situation will be like last night, only with less business) should get me almost finished with the first sock, I'd think. Which is good, because Christmas is awfully soon.

Huh. I just went around the knitting ring and it was much too quick. Gobs of sites were left out somewhere. How would that happen? Anyone else having this problem?

Okay, I NEED one of these!!! Thanks say-say!

Heeheehee. My boss told me to knit at work tonight.

I am going to be doing a complete site redesign soon, most likely including a new name. What do you think of Daily Thread?

I have an aunt who knit long ago (before I can remember, at least). Ever since I started knitting, she has told me that she wants to start again. She recently discovered that there are knitting resources online (I was showing her my article in Knitty), and now she really wants to start. I've decided that she shouldn't have any more excuses: I'm going to give her a basket of starting-to-knit things for Christmas.

In addition to yarn, needles, and instructions for a simple project, I'm thinking of including a book and/or magazine. Suggestions? She doesn't like things that are too "cute" or "hip"... she's a retired teacher who is now in law school, has a very analytical mind (except that she's afraid of math), reads a lot of history, etc.

I also want to make her a guide to knitting resources on the Internet. (I'll probably make this into a Web page on my site once I finish.) Suggestions as to sites I should include?

I was thinking of compiling a little booklet (just printed out myself, not really published, of course) of tips and thoughts on knitting from various knitters. What would be the one thing you'd like to tell a new knitter? Please send me anything you'd like to contribute. I will certainly include your name (or not), contact info, etc. if you'd like. (This too could become a Web page eventually... I will ask permission of all contributors before it does.)

Lastly, she has mentioned that knitting would be a good thing to do during her downtime while volunteering at the D-Day Museum in New Orleans (where she lives). I'd like to tie that in somehow... does anyone know of anything online regarding knitting during WWII?

And of course any other suggestions for things I'm forgetting would be greatly appreciated.

Please E-mail me any responses! Thanks!

So I got home from work and various holiday-related errands at about 4:45 this afternoon. I had an apartment to clean, laundry and dishes to do, presents to wrap. But, I reasoned, I can only knit on the roommate's Christmas socks when the roommate himself is not home. So I plugged in the Christmas tree, popped in my newly-acquired video of Barishnykov's Nutcracker (filmed in 1977; it's the version I grew up with), cuddled up on the couch, and knit away for an hour and a half. It was a wonderful little interlude, and I am finally beyond the cuff of the first sock. (Almost ready to turn the heel!)

And now I'd better go do those laundry and dishes and wrapping and all.

I did not get anywhere near enough craft stuff done this weekend. Way too much time shopping/at work/etc. I'm at work right now... going to knit at lunch. Yay. That will be fun at least. Then after work (I get out at 2 today) I have to do some errands, but then my plan is to go home and watch vidoes (The Nutcracker, to start with) and work on my roommate's socks for a few hours before he gets home. I like how they're coming out, but they're slow.

Oh! But one time I did get to knit a lot this weekend: at Wal-Mart. I was using the self-serve photo machine to make copies of the picture of the kitten we're using for Christmas cards. And. Do not EVER use that unless you really have to. It is SLOW. I ended up standing there knitting for a few hours. Really. I talked to people though and showed some little kids what I was doing and stuff, so that was fun.
