Thursday, June 26, 2003 4:49 PM Well. Nevermind what I said last time. I have a new story I need to write. Yes. Again. And this is a rather summery story, so hopefully I will be able to stick with it. It's a sequel to Chalice Keep and somewhat Harry Potter-inspired. Should be... interesting. Tuesday, June 24, 2003 6:42 PM Sometimes I think it's just not worth it. This whole writing thing. Argh. I don't know. Monday, June 09, 2003 8:55 AM Published! Yay! Go read! Tuesday, May 27, 2003 5:54 PM The novel I mentioned in my last post is going quite well. I'm putting it online (in a password protected place) for some friends to read, so that's inspiring me to write regularly. I'm trying to update it every day. (If you're interested in reading, let me know.) Wednesday, May 21, 2003 8:10 PM I started a new novel today. It's sort of ... experimental? I guess. It's in the form of e-mails, IMs, and online diary entries between a group of women. I'm hoping that it will go pretty quickly--since it's not historical it doesn't need as much research as some of my other projects. My goal is to have it ready to send to agents/editors by the end of the year. Monday, May 12, 2003 11:19 AM I did it! I submitted something! Yay. And yes, I know I need to do that regularly, but it's still scary. I recently found a poem I'd written almost two years ago and thought was rather good. Not great, but not bad. Today I revised it a bit, gave it a title ("Eulogy for a Peach"), and e-mailed it to Poetry Bay, an online poetry magazine. I decided to try online markets with this one, as it's something old (read: I haven't put tons of work into it) and I'd like to get a few more writing credits relatively quickly before I try to break into bigger markets. I'm hoping that since it's all by e-mail, the response time will be quicker this way. And I won't have spent anything on postage. I'm starting a "submissions out" count to keep track of these things over on the sidebar. :-) 9:09 AM The eternal question This weekend, for various reasons, I became even more determined in my decision to become writing-supported SOON, rather than later. So it brings up a question I've been wrestling with for years. Do I try to write short stories, which go quicker and are perhaps more easily published, or do I stick with novels? I'd love to write short stories. I've written a few, mostly for college classes. My problem has always been coming up with plots for them. I seem to think in novel-length plots. Does anyone know how I can get over this??? Wednesday, May 07, 2003 5:40 PM I've found some contests to enter, so I'm happy about that. A few are at Writer's Digest... no huge prizes or anything, but it would be something for the resume. And the Exeter Public Library is making a poetry anthology about the town. The only problem is that I've only been to Exeter once... but I do have rather strong memories of a bookstore there, so I can write about that, right? And next week I'm going to go hear Dan Brown there, so I'll spend some time in the town and library. I'm sure I can come up with a few poems. And that would be exciting! It's a real book! |
